Five Lessons About How To Treat People

It’s not mine but so good I had to share. Enjoy.

Five Lessons About How To Treat People
– Author Unknown

1. First Important Lesson - “Know The Cleaning Lady”

During my second month of college, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions, until I read the last one: “What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?”

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade.

“Absolutely,” said the professor. “In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say “hello.”

I’ve never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.

2. Second Important Lesson - “Pickup In The Rain”

One night, at 11:30 p.m., an older African American woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway trying to endure a lashing rainstorm. Her car had broken down and she desperately needed a ride. Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car.

A young white man stopped to help her, generally unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960s. The man took her to safety, helped her get assistance and put her into a taxicab.

She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a knock came on the man’s door. To his surprise, a giant console color TV was delivered to his home.

A special note was attached. It read: “Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway the other night. The rain drenched not only my clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along. Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying husband’s bedside just before he passed away. God bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving others.”

Sincerely, Mrs. Nat King Cole.

3. Third Important Lesson - “Remember Those Who Serve”

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him. “How much is an ice cream sundae?” he asked. “50¢,” replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it.

“Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?” he inquired. By now more people were waiting for a table and the waitress was growing impatient. “35¢!” she brusquely replied.

The little boy again counted his coins. “I’ll have the plain ice cream,” he said. The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left.

When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies. You see, he couldn’t have the sundae, because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip.

4. Fourth Important Lesson - “The Obstacles In Our Path”

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king’s wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many of us never understand - “Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.”

5. Fifth Important Lesson - “Giving When It Counts”

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year-old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness. The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, “Yes, I’ll do it if it will save her.”

As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheeks. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, “Will I start to die right away?”.

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood in order to save her.

I am that Chiropractor….well sort of

I was reading a magazine the other day and while this magazine had health in the title I was amazed at how many drug ads there were. While flipping through the pages I came across a question and answer section. One of the questions had to deal with back pain and the professional actually advised going to a chiropractor. I was shocked but read on. While advising the person to seek out a chiropractor they gave a check list of what to watch out for. I copied them down because the “professional” had it wrong on almost every point.

1) Stay away from chiropractors that use the term subluxation.

Huh?!? That’s what we treat. Subluxations are misalignments of the vertebrae (spinal bones) that put pressure on the     nervous system causing problems with the brain body communication. Did you know that there is a whole new you in a     year? Each cell has been replaced by the direction of the nervous system; some cells like hair and nails are replaced multiple times while nerve cells are only replaced once. When there is pressure on a nerve due to a subluxation (there I said it that just proves I’m one of them) the brain can’t communicate with the body and those cells aren’t replaced as they should be. That’s why I treat subluxations and use the term subluxation.

2) Stay away from Chiropractors that recommend long treatment plans.

My duty to my patients is to recommend a course of care that will not only alleviate their pain but correct their problems. Most conditions bringing patients to my door are caused by years of spinal neglect. I recommend a course of care to correct the underlying problem. I make an analogy to braces in that it takes some time to retrain muscles and bones to stay where they are supposed to be. This takes some active care, some supported care and some intermittent care. Active care is what it would take to get rid of the symptom plus stabilize the spine.;supported care is where we add spinal strengthening and correcting exercises ; and intermittent care is the care it takes to keep a patient in optimal health, we call it maintenance at our office. Now while I see it as my duty to recommend the best care possible for each patient it’s up to the patient to decide what’s best for them and their family. That’s why I treat the person with the problem not their insurance (that’s a whole different post for later).

3) Stay away from chiropractors that treat anything other than musculoskeletal conditions

I’m going to split hairs here. The medical world would love it if chiropractors would stay in a little box and only see patients with low-back pain, but man would we be doing a disservice to the world. When chiropractors treat anything other than a subluxation problems occur. I know for certain that if you have pressure on your nervous system, you don’t function as your creator intended for you to. Once off that plan entropy (degeneration) occurs. How much and for how long are hard to measure, it’s different for everyone. That’s why I don’t treat musculoskeletal conditions, or any other symptom. I locate and correct spinal misalignments. When that happens the body heals itself and miracles occur. I’ve seen the infertile conceive, asthma sufferers throw away their inhalers, and a host of other conditions resolve. The heart of the issue is I didn’t treat for infertility, or asthma or anything else other than a subluxation. I have a saying in my office, “I move the bone and God does the healing.” I’m sure the expert writing the article wouldn’t like my views on health but that’s ok with me. When dependence to another prescription drug is viewed as health or heaven forbid wellness I’m glad I’m that chiropractor.

Could your child benefit from chiropractic?

Why would my child need a chiropractor?

Children are susceptible to trauma in their spines from various activities and events. These micro traumas can cause nerve system stress. Doctors of Chiropractic describe this nerve system stress as subluxations or misalignments of the bones of the cranium and the spine. Nerve system stress, left unaddressed, impairs the child’s ability to function in a state of optimal health and well-being. Although symptoms, such as pain and malfunction may not show up for many years in the child, injury to their vital nerve systems can have a lifetime of damaging effects.

When should they be checked?

Children should be checked right after birth because of the potential damaging effects of the birth process. Even the most natural births are somewhat traumatic to the infant and may cause “hidden nerve system damage.” Any pulling on the baby’s fragile neck and spine during birth may cause stretching and injury to the brain stem and spinal cord. It has been shown that many children who experience symptoms of difficulty sleeping breastfeeding, digestion (colic and reflux), repeated ear and respiratory infections have impaired nerve system function. The accumulated effects from this initial damage will have lifelong consequences. Early detection and correction of cranial and spinal nerve stress by a Doctor of Chiropractic can restore normal nerve function in the infant and offer the infant an advantage for greater health potential.

Will the treatments hurt?

Chiropractors who work with children regularly use very specific, gentle techniques catered to the child’s specific needs. In the very young child, the adjustment is as light as a finger touch. Frequently, newborn babies will sleep through an adjustment. Older children enjoy chiropractic care as well and usually look forward to having their spines checked. Doctors of Chiropractic who are members of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) utilize advanced techniques specific to the care of pregnant mothers, infants and children. How can I get more information?More information about children and chiropractic is available at www.icpa4kids.org.

Parachuting Cats

In Borneo in the early 1950’s, the World Health Organization was faced with the problem of malaria among the Dayak people. They had an answer that was short, simple, and wrong, which was to spray DDT all over the place and kill the mosquitoes that carried malaria. The mosquito population declined, the incidence of malaria declined, and everybody declared the program a success. They discovered, however, that the roofs of people’s houses were falling in on their heads. It seems that the DDT has poisoned wasps, which parasitized thatch-eating caterpillars. Without the wasps the caterpillars proliferated, they ate thatch in the roofs, and the roofs fell in. The World Health Organization found it had a much worse problem, than thatch-eating caterpillars or even malaria outbreaks. The DDT had built up in the food chain. It got into the insects, which were eaten by little lizards called geckos, which were eaten by cats. The cats died, the rats flourished, and the World Health Organization was faced with an outbreak of sylvatic plague and typhus, which it had created. It was then obliged to parachute live cats into Borneo. The lesson one should draw is that in many instances, the cause of the problem is prior solutions that were not thought out well enough. All things interact, often in ways we don’t understand. If we understand interactions better, the solutions we come up with will go farther than we might initially have thought. The solutions can then beget more solutions. “More than 2 million Americans become seriously ill every year from toxic reactions to correctly prescribed medications taken properly, and 106,000 + die from those reactions.” —JAMA (printed in the Washington Post)The solution to good health lies in eliminating interference from the body, not creating it.

Our Purpose

BRING PEOPLE CLOSER TO GOD

Help people to see God’s work, appreciate its vast potentials, and allow it to function, and place no spinal or artificial interference in His natural path. If interference does exist, correct it to permit God to do His will through people and their bodies unmolested.

What Chiropractic is

What Chiropractic Is…

A health care system in which the spine is checked for the presence or absence of vertebral subluxation in an effort to prevent the development of sickness and disease and the underdevelopment of life.

Vertebral subluxations cause nervous system interference, the major contributing cause of all sickness and disease. If a subluxation is found by the Chiropractor, a specific chiropractic adjustment is performed to remove the subluxation. This alleviates the pressure on the nerve so the individual is clear of nervous system interference and can once again function normally at his or her God-given, inborn potential or 100% expression of life.

What Chiropractic is Not …

The treatment of sickness and disease or the symptoms of sickness and disease. The most useless thing any doctor can do for you is to alleviate your symptoms or cover up a problem to make you think you are well. Symptomatic relief whether by drug or adjustment does no earthy good to anyone. Symptomatically free, or people who feel good so they think they are healthy, have a nasty habit of dropping dead.

Symptoms

The Good, The Bad, or The Ugly?

FEVER

  • Kills bacteria and virus
  • Slows down reproduction of virus and bacteria
  • Speeds up chemical reactions in the body to fight infection and get the body back to normal
  • Promotes the production of cancer fighting agent Interferon

DIARRHEA

  • Elimination of poisons, bacteria and germs from your blood.

HEADACHE

  • Warning that there is an urgent problem in the body.

COUGHING, SNEEZING AND RUNNING NOSE

  • Expellation of excess germs and Toxins
  • Sluffing off of the old mucous lining to replace it with a healthy new one

PAIN AND STIFFNESS

  • Acts as a natural brace by stopping normal movement
  • Warns of an injury to prevent further damage
  • Alarm that lets you know there is sickness in the body

The New Principle of Chiropractic
In Our Society The Old Health Model We All Grew Up with Says:

  • The body is dumb
  • Doctors are smart
  • Symptoms are bad and should be suppressed

How is it possible that God gave us a body which creates 3 million new cells every minute and controls and coordinates numerous organs and systems and yet is dumb? When we use drugs to suppress symptoms, we interfere with the body’s natural methods of getting itself well

In Chiropractic, we understand that:

  • The body is smart, created in the image and likeness of God
  • Doctors do not have all the answers
  • Symptoms are your body’s way of telling you there is something happening that needs your attention or the body is healing itself

There is only one healer. It is not a pill or a shot. It is your body itself and the God-given intelligence within. Your body always knows what to do unless it is interfered with. Chiropractic attempts to remove interference. Chiropractic does not treat the symptom or the disease. Chiropractic does not cure the disease, for this can only be accomplished by nature from within.

“There exists an intelligence in man far greater than any intelligence that exists outside man. Each patient is his own best doctor.” -Albert Scweitzer, M.D.
